Change The World

What if I told you that you could change the world if you wanted to? Is anybody interested you would be interested in learning more about? While you’re watching this, I want you to think about these questions:

  • If you could change the world, what would you change?
  • What would that change look like in your life?
  • What kind of person changes the world?

Let’s start by thinking about how long it would take to chang the world. A lifetime? A few decades? A year? As always, when I’m researching a new speech, I start by Ducking-It. I came up with a few examples of people who have historically changed the world, for good or bad:

  • Ghandi
It took him 20 years to change the world by helping to liberate India non-violently from British occupation.
  • Hitler
It took this dude 12 years to forever change the world. Btw, change doesn’t always have to be for good.
  • Alexander the Great
It just took him 10 years to conquor most of Asia and the known world.
  • Jesus Christ
This guy changed the world in 3 years.

Here’s what came up on how to change the world:

  • Start small
  • Be a good neighbor
  • Pay it forward
  • Let your values guide you
  • Meditate or pray
  • Be authentic
  • Inspire others
  • Dare to try

That last one is my personal favorite. How many of us are bold (or crazy) enough to even dare to try and change the world?

What if I told you that you could be the change that you want to see in this world by simply changing yourself?

You don’t even have to be in a position of power to elicit change. For example, Rosa Parks effectively changed the world by simply refusing to surrender her seat on the bus. She continued and aided an entire movement of non-violent change, and she didn’t even have to get up to do it.

Ultimately, what we need to do is to be authentic and genuine, care about others, and most importantly, start by changing what is closest to you. That’s how we change the world.
