Everyday is National Pet Day!

Wednesday, July 11th, I celebrated All-American Pet Photo Day. I took many photos of my dog and a few were photogenic, but most were a meme. She’s a hyper pup! There are more holidays this month centralized on your pet. I’ll break down these holidays and offer tips you can do with your pup, cat, hamster, iguana—whoever is included in your pet family. Sunday, July 15th – National Pet Fire Safety Day National Pet Fire Safety Day was founded in 2009 by The American Kennel Club and ADT Security Services to help educate pet owners on how to prevent fires and how to effectively include pets in fire emergencies. Here are a few tips for safety:
  • Always extinguish flames such as candles after use.
  • Have leashes and collars stored near the entrance of your home.
  • Hang a fire alert window cling. They guide firefighters to pets in your home.
  • Have a plan! Emergencies can happen unexpectedly.
#NationalPetFireSafetyDay Saturday, July 21st – No Pet Store Puppies Day I learned about this holiday through The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). It is a reminder to not purchase puppies through commercial retailers because the conditions in large-scale puppy mills are dangerous and often inhabitable. This day was created to spread awareness about shelter and rescue group adoption. These pets also need a home. If you’re looking for a new friend for your best four-legged friend, try your local shelter or rescue group. A few in Chattanooga, TN include The Pet Placement Center and The Humane Educational Society. #NoPetStorePuppiesDay Tuesday, July 31st & December 2nd – National Mutt Day This one is pretty self-explanatory – our mutts need lots of love! Created by animal welfare advocate, Colleen Paige, the national holiday is celebrated twice a year to support our mutts. Celebrate this day by taking lots of photos with your mixed breed pup or adopt a healthy mutt from a shelter. #NationalMuttDay There is a national holiday every day, but few are centralized on our furbabies. Let’s celebrate these days, but always show our furry friends that we appreciate and love them. Peace Out!
